In conversation with Dr Soheil Abedian, chairman & executive director - Sunland Group

Recorded: 18 June 2020

The Urban Developer proudly welcomes Dr. Soheil Abedian, chairman and executive director of Sunland Group to our webinar series.

Founded in 1983 with a single luxury home on the Gold Coast, Sunland Group is a name that is synonymous with design-led development in Australia.

Over the past 35 years, Soheil has overseen the creation of some of Australia’s architectural landmarks, including the world’s first fashion-branded hotel, Palazzo Versace and one of the world’s tallest residential towers, Q1 on the Gold Coast.

The group’s portfolio comprises over 4,000 residential homes, urban land lots, multi-story apartments and 20,000 square metres of retail, representing an end value of $3.0 billion.

Recognised for the establishment of the Abedian School of Architecture at Bond University in 2009 through the Abedian Foundation, Soheil is both a renowned property entrepreneur and a highly-regarded philanthropist.

The conversation will explore:

  • His career journey from a single home on the Gold Coast to today
  • His approach to creating enduring design and architecture the connects with purchasers and occupants
  • His experiences delivering iconic projects such as Q1 and Palazzo Versace
  • His outlook on the residential property sector in Australia and the impact that Covid-19 will have on his appetite for new projects
  • The lessons that previous cycles have taught him and how developers can respond in the current environment
  • What impact he continues to have on the direction of Sunland Group into the future
  • His motivation for creating the Abedian School of Architecture at Bond University and its impact on people and cities into the future
  • What will be his ultimate legacy on the Australian urban environment
